About Us

Our Story

Al-Mart General Store is located in the historic Silverheels building at 11 South Main Street downtown Alma, Colorado est. 1873. Sitting at 10,578 feet above sea level, Alma is the highest incorporated town in the United States. Nestled below three of Colorado's 14 ers, Mt Bross, Lincoln and Democrat, we boast picturesque views, epic hiking spots and high altitude escapes. The Silverheels building was built in 1896; its history spanning from the early dance hall days and the Silverheels Saloon in the 70's,  to the famous Molly McDuff Bakery of the 1990s.

Established in 2007, the Al-Mart has continued to grow and is even considered a tourist destination. We visualized a place where locals and visitors can buy the things they need  daily on this side of the Continental Divide.

Mountain Lifestyle

Alma has a rich community of skiers, snowboarders, bikers (of all kinds), fly fishers, musicians, boaters, artists, and miners, to name a few. Our store mirrors our diverse Mountain spirit providing Alma with a "megamart" alternative that we can truly call our own.

Come on in and check out our ever-changing inventory. You can buy local meat and cheese from Scanga Meat Company in Salida CO, local Colorado products, and a huge grocery selection, including organic and natural foods. We even have a selection of gluten free items!

Our shoppers will be surprised how much the Carhartt brand has evolved; from essential gear best for your trade or mountain clothes and street-wear to suit your lifestyle. We have a full line of work clothes and footwear to serve corporate and fleet needs, or high quality clothing, socks, and hats to suit your whole family. Sorel and Columbia boots, shoes, and slippers are musts for high altitude living. Forgot camping or fishing gear? No worries! We are a true general store; chances are we have what you need and ...

If We Don't Have it, You Don't Need It!!

Remember your visit to Al-Mart and Alma with hats, stickers, t-shirts and hoodies. We have an awesome selection of locally produced soap, candles or jewelry too.

Family Owned & Operated

Our family works hard to give you a great local business where all our neighbors and friends are welcome to share a story over a hot cup of $1.00 coffee. We guarantee warm welcomes, friendly faces, and answers to all your questions about Al-Mart and our amazing community. We hope we’ll see you soon!
