Al-Mart General Store is located in the historic Silverheels building at 11 South Main Street downtown Alma, Colorado est. 1873. Sitting at 10,578 feet above sea level Alma is the highest incorporated town in the U.S.A. The Silverheels building was built in 1896 and is full of history, from the dance hall of the early days to the famous Molly McDuff Bakery of the 1990s.

Al-Mart General Store was a dream of Cory Kritzmire and Mark January for years before it materialized in the fall of 2007. The two had a vision to provide a place for locals and visitors to buy the things they needed for everyday life without driving over the Continental Divide. Alma is a colorful community full of skiers, snowboarders, bikers (of all kinds), fly fishers, musicians, boaters, artists, miners and so much more. It was very important to keep this spirit alive in the store. Providing an alternative to American Megamarts just seemed to make since in Alma.

After three years of business the store has literally doubled in size. Whether you’ve been in Al-Mart or not, come in and check out our ever changing inventory. You can buy local meat and cheese from Scanga Meat Company in Salida CO, Farmer’s all natural milk, and a huge selection of groceries, organic or not. We have fresh soup and sandwiches daily. We offer a co-op stop for Door to Door Organics produce delivery as well. Just register on their website and receive a discount for being a part of the Al-Mart co-op. While you’re in the store you’ll be surprised how far Carhart has come. We have a full line of work clothes and are happy to accommodate all corporate and fleet needs. We also sell children’s, women’s and men’s high quality every day clothing, socks, hats…. Sorel and Columbia boots, shoes and slippers are a must for high altitude living. If you’re camping or fishing and forget something…no worries! We are a true general store so chances are we have what you need. And we can’t go with out mentioning our well known Al-Mart and Alma hats, stickers, t-shirts and hoodies!
